Children rights of protection and participation Introduction This research paper focuses on the childrens rights and the participation that the children have in their implementation. It is every childs right to have a say on the things that affects its life. However, some children are either too young or too truant to make solid decisions. This research paper discusses on these rights and to what extent that the children can decide on their way of life. Child Rights on decision making Children have the same rights as adults. As a vulnerable group, children have particular rights that recognize their special need for protection and also that help them develop their full potential. Children are not helpless objects of charity or a property of their parents. They are recognized as human beings and the subjects of their own rights. A child is an individual, a family and community member with rights and appropriate responsibilities for his or her age and development stage. Children should enjoy the basic qualities of life as rights rather than privileges accorded to them (CRC, 2006) Every child whether a boy or girl irrespective of age is unique and has value importance as a person with a right for their human dignity to be respected. It has a right to have a say in all decisions and matters that concern him or her, to be listened to and his or her opinion taken seriously (CRIN, 2002). This will enhance understanding and mutual respect between children and adults. The participation of children protects them more effectively from abuse and exploitation. When we understand and respect childrens own experiences, we are able to create better protection mechanisms and the children themselves can act as active agents in their own protection. This helps to develop and build recognition of children as independent bearers of rights with a sense of identity and a positive implication for their self esteem (CRIN, 2002). Childrens rights are defined in a wide spectrum of economic, civil, political and social rights. These rights have been labeled as the right to protection and right to empowerment. Some of these rights are: Right to provision: Children have a right to be provided with a good standard of living, education and services, health care and a right to play. These include access to schooling, a balanced diet and a warm bed to sleep in. They also have a right to be protected from neglect, abuse, discrimination and exploitation (CRC, 2006) Children also have a right to participation. They have a right to their own programs and services and to take part in them. This includes decision making and involvement in libraries. Some rights allow children to grow up healthy and free. This include; Freedom of speech, Freedom of thought, Freedom from fear, Freedom of choice and to make decisions and Ownership over ones body. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) provides a framework for addressing not only rights to child protection care and adequate provision, but also for participation. A child who is capable of making his or her own views shall be assured by the parties of the state a right to express them freely (CRC, 2006) The views of the child are given weight according to the maturity and age of the child. A child can participate in the sense of taking part or being present or participate in the sense of knowing that ones actions are taken note of and may be acted upon. The extent to childrens participation will vary between and within societies (CRC, 2006) There has been a clash between the childrens protection and participation rights. Protection rights protect the children against exploitation and abuse for the best interest of the child while in participatory rights; children take part in decisions concerning their lives and a right to freedom of conscious and to hold an opinion. Adults and their childrens views may not always coincide. Many childrens wishes and views are ignored by the adults for the best interest of the child. For instance; (CRC) Every child is entitled to acquire a name and a nationality. All children registration should be upon birth. The childs name, birth date and parents names are recorded. When a child is given a name at birth, he or she is not given an opportunity to choose a name for himself or herself. The parents do this for the best interests of the child (CRC). The child may however, decide to change its name upon reaching the age of maturity. In this case the child is denied a right to participate in choosing its name at first but at later stages of development; the same child can participate in the same by changing to its desired name (CRC).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A child has a right to be protected from all forms of punishment or discrimination regardless of their age, race, sex, religion, status, their expressed opinions, activities and beliefs of the family members. As much as a child has a right to religion, to express their opinion, or equality regardless of their age, these are sometimes restricted by their parents or legal guardians. For instance, a child is not at liberty to join a religion cult without the parents interference. It is not because the child is denied its freedom to worship but its for the best interest of the child (CRC). Children also have a right to get and share information and to express them. In exercising this right, they are supposed to be careful not to damage themselves or the freedoms, rights and reputations of others. They may share information through talking, writing or drawing. A childs wishes may be ignored if it is for the best of the child. For instance, a child may be denied the right to express dislike or hatred towards a particular person by hauling insults at the person. On the same, the child may be restricted on the manner of expression. For instance through shouting or screaming or demanding instead of asking politely (CRC). Children have a right of association. They have a right to meet and to join groups and organizations. Not all groups joined by children are acceptable by their parents or guardians; this brings a clash between the childrens right of association and prevention of joining them. Children are also restricted from joining into these groups if they stop other people from enjoying their rights. For instance a rioting group which will probably cause peace disturbance to others, or an outlawed group will not be acceptable that the children join (CRC). Children have a right to privacy. They are protected from attacks in their way of life, their name, families and homes. However, their way of life can be invaded by their parents or guardians if its for their best interests, for instance, when parents suspect that the child may be involved in drugs or other unlawful activities they may be forced to ransack the childs room or personal effects (CRC). Its a right for the children to access information. This they get through the radio, newspapers, television, internet and childrens books. They have a right to choose what kind of information they would like to access and in which manner. However, not all information is suitable or helpful to them (CRC). Most of the information provided by the mass media especially the radio, television and internet is unsuitable to children. It may contain violence, obscenity or strong language. Since these are harmful to the children they dont have a right over them and so their parents or guardians have to protect the children from such by deciding on what is good or bad for them. The parents also have to protect on what their children browse on the internet since they can access pornography or sites with violence which are harmful to the child (CRC). It is a childs right to live with its parents. The child can however be separated from the parents when the conditions are not favorable for the child. Such conditions may be neglect or abuse by the parents or separation by the parents hence the state has to decide on which parent has to live with the child. If the child has no parents the state decides on a home or an institution for the child to live. In this case the child may not have much of a say in the choice of who to live with. Sometimes children run away from their birth homes to live with their relatives or even live on the streets. This may be as a result of poverty or rebellion. The best interests of the child are considered first before the child is taken back to its parents home (CRC). Conclusion Children have a right to participate in decisions that shape their life and therefore should be given a chance to express their own opinion. However, this right is only exercised considering the maturity and the best interest of the child. Not all decisions that a child makes will be supported by their parents or guardians. The Issue of Gun Control Legislation One of the most controversial issues in our society is gun control legislation. Violence associated with guns is increasing every year and something must be done to stop it. Gun legislation varies in every state. In some states gun policy is stricter than in other states. Gun legislation should be abolished in favor of federal gun legislation. To analyze the problem with gun violence today you must understand the gun laws that are in effect. The gun legislation in the United States are mostly based on a state level. One federal law for example, prohibits the manufacture of all plastic guns. The federal government tightly restricts fully automatic guns. Manufactures stamp serial numbers on guns for law purposes. The government also has regulation on importation on guns brought into the country. Also, most states restrict the purchasing of long guns under the age of 18, and 21 for the purchase of handguns Most states prohibit the purchase of guns if you are: a convicted felon, alcoholic, drug addict, mentally ill person, alien, or a fugitive from justice. Some laws required prospective gun buyers, to get a purchase permit, which comes with applicant passing all background checks. A few states even require that all persons possessing guns must have a license to do so, even in their homes. Some states don’t ban guns from addicts. This is a problem. Gun conciliation is not the same in each state. If it was same, it would have been easier to decrease the criminal acts. Guns are a form of power. Many individuals, ‘including criminals’ feel powerful when carrying a gun. Half of the households in the United States possess a gun. Criminals use guns for satisfaction. For example, to obtain sexual gratification in a rape or money in a robbery, or more frequently, to frighten and dominate victims in some other assault. All of these things can be gained without an attack, and indeed the possession of a gun can serve as a substitute for attack, rather than its vehicle (Kleck,1991). A sample was done by police in 50 major cities to see who is more common to use a gun (Kleck,1991). The data included that gun use in homicides is more common when (1) the victim is male rather than female, (2) the victim is male and the attacker is female, (3) ... ...le will have question like â€Å"how will I protect my self from criminals? Many people argue that guns in households scare away many criminals. Criminals take major risks when they attempt an armed attack. They also can achieve major benefits. The benefits consist of the potential economic or other gains, however conceived, from the contemplated crime; the costs include the possibility of being caught and imprisoned, of being shot at in the course of the crime, either by the police or by the victim. The likelihood of social disapproval could be a negative factor. It has been known that one half of every household has at least one gun. If you restrict a victim’s options by limiting household guns, crime could rise highly. This new policy on gun control should help lead our nation in the right direction. The massacre at the Empire State Building was an example of how our gun legislation must be changed. The new federal gun legislation will provide equality among all states. Criminals will not have the option of buying a gun in a state with weak gun legislation. This new policy on gun legislation will cut down on violence dramatically.

Children are gifts from God. So they need to be nurtured, protected, respect and most of all they need LOVE. We as teacher are said to be the second mother of every child in the school. We’re together for eight hours a day or even longer, five days a week, we even spend more time with them than their real parents. We got to laugh with them often, play with them and we contribute a lot in their total development as a person. For me, being a teacher is really not just teaching a child how to read and write. But also you must learn how to be a mother to them. â€Å"Mothers knows best† you know when to give them praise when they made the right thing and discipline them when they made the wrong thing. â€Å"Gives the school, its administrators and teachers, or the individual, entity or institution engaged in child care the special parental authority and responsibility over the minor child while under their supervision, instruction or custody†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ â€Å"Authority and responsibility shall apply to all authorized activities whether inside or outside the premises of the school, entity or institutions. Reading the â€Å"Child Protection Policy Of The Department of Education† and having this articles as the legal basis that we the school, administrators and the teachers has the given the authority and responsibility over the minor child while they are under our supervision instruction custody. Any analogous or similar acts 7.Bullying or Peer abuse As its definition goes corporal punishment refers to a kind of punishment or penalty imposed for an alleged or actual offense, which is carried out or inflicted for the purpose of discipline, training or control, by a teacher, school administrator an adult,or any other child who has been given or has assumed authority or responsibility for punishment or discipline. Teaching a child is really a big responsibility. Considering the fact that you’re not just teaching one or two pupil in a classroom. Like in our school I have forty nine pupils. Forty nine pupils coming from different environment, different values and upbringing. When I was still a student, I could remember my teacher imposing corporal punishment to us. I can honestly say I dislike that teacher.I could still remember me saying† I will never ever,in any situation be like her if Im going to be a teacher. But, now that I am a teacher myself I could say in all honesty that I already understand her. Observing the younger generation I could say that there’s really a big difference when it comes to their behaviors and attitudes,especially in their studies. They are more lax and no focus. And sometimes because of peer influence,technologies,media,and their environment they tend to forget their values.I have noticed that since paddling was taken out of schools, kids have gotten lazy and are falling behind in academics. They sometimes have gotten more violent and agreessive toward their teachers especially in higher grades. To much of anything is not good.For me, anything that is beyond, needs to be stop.So if it needs for discipline I think corporal punishment is not bad.

Wrights kitchen who is arrested for the murder of her husband. When the men go upstairs to find evidences that they dont think they will get in the kitchen, because In their perspective It Is silly area since It belongs to women, Susan Is creating a space for the women during their dialogue to show their Intelligence and their analysis that Is based on questions. Through their talking they find a dead bird which is one of the most important details that they build their conclusions on. The women hide this because they dont want the men find it as a motive for Mrs.. Wright to kill her husband, and the play ends after the women mislead the men. The bird in the play is highly symbolic for Mrs.. And Mr.. Wright which I think Susan has succeeded in using it. Review Description Symbols in literature add further meanings and make the meaning stay in the readers mind. As many plays Trifles has several symbols that make the reader understand deeply the characters and their roles throughout the play. The major symbol In the play Is the bird which Is used to represent Mrs.. Wright herself and her life that lacks of freedom, because after her loveless marriage she became imprisoned in a gloomy house. In the story, Mrs.. Wright wants it as an alternative of children, and she likes it because it reminds her of her past when she used to sing, so she wants to recall her cheerfulness. It was the only left hope for her before Mr.. Wright has put it down, and for Mr.. Wright is a fake hope, so he wanted to get rid of it. The birds ultimate freedom through death also resonates with Minces freedom through her husbands death. Even though she is Jailed in the play, her spirit is freed through the revenge she enacts upon Mr.. Wright notes Dalton. Evaluation The play is very effective because Susan Slapped used all the elements of the play successfully, so the meaning is delivered clearly and emotionally. Her active description of the setting helps the reader to understand the psychological situations of the characters. Also, her using of the dialogue of the women and the Irony In the play forces the reader to sympathize with the protagonist, because she highlights throughout the womens conversation the protagonists stillness and suffering with ere rough NASDAQ Ana makes NV or near unreason Tanat ten murder Is a result and outcome of these factors. The symbols give the play powerful meanings and explain her state of mind of being lonely, motherless and imprisoned. In my opinion, the end is successful because it evokes the reader to think about Mrs.. Wrights destiny which I think as a reader that Mrs.. Wright will go out of the Jail because of lack of enough evidences. Conclusion Trifles by Susan Slapped is considered as a feminist drama because it is mainly about women and their struggle. The author points out the male perspective toward female. She tries to change this perspective by showing women intelligence and also by the tragic situation that the house of the Wrights has become.
